My First Commissioned Piece!

I'm about to bust from excitement! As you know, I just did my first craft show where I displayed my framed pictures and as you may or may not know, I sold a customized quilled initial!  I was so happy to do this because the customer was expecting a new grandbaby and I was to make an initial matching the nursery colors and a seahorse from the invitation.  I'm happy to say that the customer was happy and I loved the way it turned out... Isn't the seahorse adorable and I love the colors of teal and pink together!

My experience with my first craft show...

You know how it goes- your friends, family, and neighbors all say how beautiful your work is. "You could sell these!" Or "I know a lot of people who would buy these!"  Then, in the back of your mind you say,"Hmmmm- would it really sell?" Well, two people convinced me to be a vendor at a craft show and since it was for a church for a small fee, I thought, "Okay, why not give it a try?"  So I did. 😳. I researched about what I needed and made a list and these things happened: my computer crashed..a printer stopped working, and the night before the sale, I bought a card reader so it would be more convenient to buyers. I waited until after my sons karate class to open the box and the reader wasn't there!  Someone had stole it! The store had already closed, and wouldn't open until the festival started the next morning!  Luckily, I found one in stock at another store an hour earlier the next morning.  Here are some products I had ready along wit

Dancing Dragonflies

For those of you who have been on Pinterest, you know how you come across something so wonderful and you have to save it to your page. Well, I was looking for pictures of dragonflies to get an idea of something I could quill and came across this fantastic abstract picture of two dragonflies.  I have to give credit to a wonderfully talented artist who creates these abstract "doodles". Her name is Trisha Larson and she makes amazing drawings.  If you like this picture and are interested in more of her work, you can purchase the different books online or even download them there on the spot.  Abstractdoodles.com  is where you can find the link to the book that contains the drawing I used, but there are many more to choose from whether you want to color the traditional way or quill them.  They are amazing! Here is the picture quilled. Enjoy- and check out her  artwork !

Needed Some Sunshine 🌞

Have you ever a week where things were just not going your way and you were so frustrated and tired that your head felt like it was going to explode?  That was this week for me. I'm usually that optimistic up beat person who just goes with the flow and yesterday was just enough where I went home and took a nap. After I woke up, I decided I needed some sunshine so I made some cards using a bright yellow background.  I wanted something simple, so I used a strip of color accented with a single flower. Here is what I came up with- I hope you like 🌞 The third card isn't finished yet, so I'm still working on figuring out the concept... Hope you have a fabulous week!

The Fairy

I This fairy was a complete challenge to me as well as a learning experience. I found her while perusing through pictures of fairies. I've had my eye on her for a while and have been trying to find the artist who originally drew her.  If she belongs to you,I would love to give credit. I did change her dress a bit to make her my own version. I started her out by drawing her on card stock paper. I then outlined and filled her body with the beehive technique.   I wasn't happy with how it looked, but continued to quill... I still wasn't happy with her body, so I cut the beehive out and redid her outline. I then glued it onto a new piece of card stock and then filled in her body with a light peach shade of color. I started to stop altogether on her, but had to finish!  What do you think? Would you have quit and started something else?

A Butterfly

I have been on a roll (literally) these past few weeks of summer. A new friend requested me to try a special butterfly for her daughter. It was my first attempt and while playing around, I was able to create a orchid as well in the garden.

Quilled Cross II

I gave you a sneak peak of my quilled cross and it is now complete and framed.  Something about a cross in whatever colors or styles, it always reminds me to live my life by God.  It represents what he gave up for me and that I should always remember ... As a side note, I've had a lot of people ask about the border and the two toned flowers.  These were precut strips I bought at my nearby craft store.  The strips are fringed and cut to form various flower shapes.  I used one style as the outline for my cross.  Here is a link about the strips on my Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/QuillingFun/posts/882561315131234

NOT just another treble clef...

I love all things music. It's just always been a staple in my life. From playing the piano, singing in the many choirs from church and school, to teaching music, and in art.  Well yesterday I decided to attempt a quilled treble clef.  I always say that music soothes the soul... This one is on a green tie-dyed scrapbook paper and instead of the typical black and white, I wanted something a little unusual.  I hope you like it and looking at it helps to sooth your soul... Starting to fill it in ... The finished product:

Quilled Cross. II ...Just a cross?

I have decided to quill another cross. No, not just another cross; every one is different and everyone perceives it differently. What does the cross represent to you? I have attached a time lapsed video of a fanned flower on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/quilling fun. Also, I am giving you a sneak peak of what's to come...

Band-Aid Friction Block Review

I usually recieve free products to sample and review, but this was such an amazing product, I had to share... After getting blisters from flip flops my first day in Vegas, I switched shoes- which happened to be a new pair of heels. They were an expensive pair that were supposed to be a soft comfy leather. I had band-aids covering my existing blisters and they were older so they weren't sticking or staying in place so I ventured into the nearest pharmacy to get more band aids. I happened to come across this product and was desperate, so i purchased it. The next morning, I applied it to my pinky toes, my heels, and across the top where I had tender spots from my other shoes. By afternoon, I started to feel a little tender, so I reapplied. I did this every day for the next 4 days. When I returned home, I found tiny blisters on my pinky toes and that was it! This stuff saved my feet! I only had the new heels to wear for those four days and this stuff was amazing! I highly r

Take the Old and Create the New...again!

After I turned my daughters pajama pants into shorts, I wondered what I could do with the leg fabric that I had cut off. Well, my preschoolers have a grocery tote bag that they like to play with and we've wanted to get more so they wouldn't have to share.  Problem solved! I simply turned it inside out and sewed one opening shut.  For the handle, I just cut a long enough strip to add to the top and folded one side into the center, folded over the other side on top like a brochure and then pinned it and sewed it.  I then sewed it into the top sides of the bag and voila!  A grocery tote bag!

Take the Old and Create the New.

My daughter has grown so much the last few years.  We haven't bought her any new pajama pants in a while because she was just wearing everyday shorts while it was hot.  Come winter time, she tried on her old pants and they were too long to be capris and too short to be pants.  Instead of going out and wasting money buying more, I decided to cut them off and make them into shorts.  I brought out my dusty sewing machine, cut them off and sewed a hem into the bottom.  It wasn't very difficult and made something bend new!  (The actual hard part was remembering how to thread the machine and refill and replace the bobbin!)

Bona Hardwood Floor Wet Cleaning Pads

I received another great product to try (#gotitfree and #smiley360) and this time it's was for my hardwood floors.  It doesn't matter what you do, but if you're like me you always are short on time.  I was able to try Bona's Hardwood Floor Cleaning wipes.  They come in a resealable bag and are easy to affix to any other brands cleaning tools.  I love that they're disposable and are a quick cleanup.  The only downside I found is that tend to dry out fairly quickly, but it's about the same as other brands cleaning brands,  I had some kind of sticky residue on one spot and it came up quite effortlessly.  I used three pads on my formal living room and formal dining room. It even picked up dirt and dog hair I missed with my dry cleaning pad. Give it go- sure made my life more simple!                                     • Quick, convenient, and easy cleaning • Safe for all wood floors • Dries fast, no dulling residue • Same great Bona® cleaning performance in a
