Desk Do-Over

I am blessed to live in a neighborhood with several neighbors around who have children close to the ages of my own.  The other day, one of my neighbors bought her daughter a new desk and was trying to give her old one away.  I didn't think we had room, but my daughter wanted it!  She had been doing her homework on her bed and the couch and although it was comfy, it's just not practical.  She begged for us to take it, so I relented.  The only problem?  The desk was white and her furniture is all black.  What to do?  I decided to paint it of course! The desk consisted of a desk and small hutch with a cork board strip running across the back.  My friends daughter had written on it and so after thinking how to remedy it, I decided to cover it with fabric.  I will show you the before and after pictures. The only problem I had with this project was the spray paint I initially started out with.  It was spraying like spatter paint and lea...

Frustrated with Google+

Okay, I've spent quite a bit of time now using Google+ with my blog and it has been horrible.  If you use Internet Explorer then you can't see comments, can't comment, much less read comments!  I have taken the Google+ association off!  DONE!  I loved having it all connected, but it's frustrating trying to keep up with comments...Anyone else have trouble with this?  Also, I found out that in order to comment, you have to have a Google+ account.  I do NOT want to force anyone to sign up on something they don't want!!!  Hopefully I can now get back to what I enjoy and sharing thoughts with you!  :) On a side note, Hope that you had a blessed Thanksgiving and now we have to gear head first into Christmas!!  :)

Garage Door Gone Wild... I mean Wooden!

After we replaced our all glass front door with a more private, insulated door, my husband said, "All we need to do now is stain the garage door..." I was not expecting that! Our then neighbor at the time had already done hers and it did look nice, but I was nervous about how it would turn out!  You can see her picture here:  http://raquelenglish.com/garage-doors-made-to-look-like-wood/ I reluctantly asked her how she did it and set about getting started.  First, I washed my door with a scrub brush to get the chalky residue off. I then used a 3" fine-bristled brush to apply Old Masters Gel Stain in Dark Walnut to the door one square at a time.  I painted horizontally to make it follow the wooden grain. I advise you to wait and paint when the sun is not full on the door and when it's not going to rain that day or the next.  Raquel suggested to rub off the excess after painting, but it was not dark enough so I left it as it was painted with the brush.  Here i...

Another Ornament for Christmas

I found some more ornaments in my closet of craft stuff while cleaning this summer.  Obviously my cleaning didn't get very far being so delighted with my new discovery!  I found a cute clip art a while back of some holly leaves, so I thought about how I could do it inside the ornament.  After a few minutes, I was ready to start.  After gluing two leaves together, I gently pushed them inside.  I then used a plastic butter knife to keep them lying flat and let them dry.  I then added the third leaf.

The Cross

I decided to work on something new and I wanted to be a little abstract this time.  I had it in my mind the phrase "In God all things are possible." Even though I sometimes don't understand why things in life occur, I know there is a reason far beyond my comprehension for it happening. I always in the back of my mind think, trust in Him.  I used a metallic blues card stock for the cross which seemed to give it an almost cloud like essence with varied shades of blue and yellow quilling strips.  I first layered the card stock pieces for the cross and glued them down.  Next, I cut out the swirls of card stock in the aquamarine blue and metallic blues.  I then glued them down to where they almost flowed from the cross.  On top of the card stock, I then used different techniques of quilling to add the top layers.  I hope this picture conveys my thought process of His love flowing out to all. Have a nice day!
