Garage Door Gone Wild... I mean Wooden!

After we replaced our all glass front door with a more private, insulated door, my husband said, "All we need to do now is stain the garage door..." I was not expecting that! Our then neighbor at the time had already done hers and it did look nice, but I was nervous about how it would turn out!  You can see her picture here: http://raquelenglish.com/garage-doors-made-to-look-like-wood/

I reluctantly asked her how she did it and set about getting started.  First, I washed my door with a scrub brush to get the chalky residue off. I then used a 3" fine-bristled brush to apply Old Masters Gel Stain in Dark Walnut to the door one square at a time.  I painted horizontally to make it follow the wooden grain. I advise you to wait and paint when the sun is not full on the door and when it's not going to rain that day or the next.  Raquel suggested to rub off the excess after painting, but it was not dark enough so I left it as it was painted with the brush.  Here is the before and after picture:
13 months later and it still looks amazing!

Another Ornament for Christmas

I found some more ornaments in my closet of craft stuff while cleaning this summer.  Obviously my cleaning didn't get very far being so delighted with my new discovery!  I found a cute clip art a while back of some holly leaves, so I thought about how I could do it inside the ornament.  After a few minutes, I was ready to start.  After gluing two leaves together, I gently pushed them inside.  I then used a plastic butter knife to keep them lying flat and let them dry.  I then added the third leaf.

A Candy Cane Christmas

I decided I wanted to try another quilled ornament and so I chose a candy cane pattern. I quilled the first red and white candy cane as a whole. I then quilled the green and white candy cane into two pieces so that it would fit into the top of my ornament. I put the red candy cane inside first and then glued the two green pieces using tweezers to glue them onto the whole red and white candy cane.. After waiting a while, I then glued the bow on top using the tweezers to gently place it on top of the candy canes inside the ornament. I think I like the contrast of the two colors!
