I had a special request to make a quilled initial all in gold and creams. I wanted it to be glamorous yet classic. I found beautiful card stock in shades of gold. Some glittery, some shimmering, and some in a pearlescent quality with lots of different textures. I used my Cricut to cut out the lettering for the 50th and the date.
The date was very tricky to do because of the specialty paper I used. It began to split apart as I lifted it off of the mat. Then with self cut strips in 1/2" width, I outlined the letter M and filled it with quilling.
I have a close friend who has trusted me to create several pieces for her and this was one of them. It makes me happy to have a new challenge and this was indeed one. I used a photo given to me as a reference and quilled atop a print out of it. I have the photo cut out in my pocket protector and am quilling on top of it careful not to glue the paper to the plastic. I use straight pins to hold it together until it dries. Here I’ve taken the quilled rider and horse off of the styrofoam backing and added to a background I added of layered trees. Here’s the final piece…
Wow, Jen! It is definitely both classic and glamorous! It's beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy! It was my biggest project so far. What are you working on right now?
