NOT Just Another Mom

You know how it goes- your friends,family, and neighbors all say how beautiful your work is. "You could sell these!" Or "I know a lot of people who would buy these!"  Then, in the back of your mind you say,"Hmmmm- would it really sell?" Well, two people convinced me to be a vendor at a craft show and since it was for a church for a small fee, I thought, "Okay, why not give it a try?"  So I did. 😳. I researched about what I needed and made a list and these things happened: my computer crashed..a printer stopped working, and the night before the sale, I bought a card reader so it would be more convenient to buyers. I waited until after my sons karate class to open the box and the reader wasn't there!  Someone had stole it! The store had already closed, and wouldn't open until the festival started the next morning!  Luckily, I found one in stock at another store an hour earlier the next morning.  Here are some products I had ready along wit...

For those of you who have been on Pinterest, you know how you come across something so wonderful and you have to save it to your page. Well, I was looking for pictures of dragonflies to get an idea of something I could quill and came across this fantastic abstract picture of two dragonflies.  I have to give credit to a wonderfully talented artist who creates these abstract "doodles". Have you ever a week where things were just not going your way and you were so frustrated and tired that your head felt like it was going to explode?  That was this week for me. I'm usually that optimistic up beat person who just goes with the flow and yesterday was just enough where I went home and took a nap. After I woke up, I decided I needed some sunshine so I made some cards using a bright yellow background.  I wanted something simple, so I used a strip of color accented with a single flower. I This fairy was a complete challenge to me as well as a learning experience. I found her while perusing through pictures of fairies. I've had my eye on her for a while and have been trying to find the artist who originally drew her.  If she belongs to you,I would love to give credit. I did change her dress a bit to make her my own version. I started her out by drawing her on card stock paper. I then outlined and filled her body with the beehive technique.   I wasn't happy with how it looked, but continued to quill... I still wasn't happy with her body, so I cut the beehive out and redid her outline. I then glued it onto a new piece of card stock and then filled in her body with a light peach shade of color. I started to stop altogether on her, but had to finish!  What do you think? Would you have quit and started something else?

I have been on a roll (literally) these past few weeks of summer. A new friend requested me to try a special butterfly for her daughter. It was my first attempt and while playing around, I was able to create a orchid as well in the garden.

I gave you a sneak peak of my quilled cross and it is now complete and framed.  Something about a cross in whatever colors or styles, it always reminds me to live my life by God.  It represents what he gave up for me and that I should always remember ... As a side note, I've had a lot of people ask about the border and the two toned flowers.  These were precut strips I bought at my nearby craft store.  The strips are fringed and cut to form various flower shapes.  I used one style as the outline for my cross.  Here is a link about the strips on my Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/QuillingFun/posts/882561315131234

I love all things music. It's just always been a staple in my life. From playing the piano, singing in the many choirs from church and school, to teaching music, and in art.  Well yesterday I decided to attempt a quilled treble clef.  I always say that music soothes the soul... This one is on a green tie-dyed scrapbook paper and instead of the typical black and white, I wanted something a little unusual.  I hope you like it and looking at it helps to sooth your soul...
