Trip to Charleston,SC

We spent the week at Charleston,SC and we had a blast! Contrary to what I believed, there is a lot to see and appreciate there. In a week's time we hit The Battery, the South Carolina Aquarium, the USS Yorktown, the USS Hunley, Rainbow Row, the Outside Market, and Fort Sumter. We toured some of the historic downtown with a great horse carriage tour and even took the free trolley service.                                                                                                                                                                     My kids 12 and 8 had a great time and learned alot about the Carolina's history with slavery and Europe.

We mostly did walking and checking things out ourselves. Staying at the Doubletree in downtown Charleston was a smart move. We were basically able to walk everywhere except to the aircraft carrier and Ft. Sumter. For those places, you can take the free trolley and the ferry boat ride over. As for the USS Hunley, we stopped on a whim on the last day and I think the kids enjoyed it most, due to the veterans there who told the exciting history of the submarine.

Quilled Ballerina

Quilled Ballet,  Dancer I wanted to try something challenging and I saw a picture of a ballerina that I thought might be the one. Well, here it is....I used a combination of beehive and regular quilling. This is in honor of my daughter turning 13 today! Happy Birthday!!! Quilled Ballerina Quilled Ballerina

Quilled Pointe Shoe

My daughter took Pointe this year at dance and being the end of the year, I wanted to make a special thank you card for the staff.  I drew the outline for the shoe and then filled the spaces with 1/8 width quilling paper.

Another Ornament for Christmas

I found some more ornaments in my closet of craft stuff while cleaning this summer.  Obviously my cleaning didn't get very far being so delighted with my new discovery!  I found a cute clip art a while back of some holly leaves, so I thought about how I could do it inside the ornament.  After a few minutes, I was ready to start.  After gluing two leaves together, I gently pushed them inside.  I then used a plastic butter knife to keep them lying flat and let them dry.  I then added the third leaf.
