Quilled Ballerina

Quilled Ballet,  Dancer I wanted to try something challenging and I saw a picture of a ballerina that I thought might be the one. Well, here it is....I used a combination of beehive and regular quilling. This is in honor of my daughter turning 13 today! Happy Birthday!!! Quilled Ballerina Quilled Ballerina

Birthday Card with Blue Flowers...

Last night I put together a birthday card for my mother-in-law.  I wasn't really sure what I was intending until I actually put a few different flowers together. Quilled flowers Quilled flowers Here is the final product...  Birthday card with quilled flowers

Miss You Card...

Quilled spiral roses A very special co-worker of mine will be moving forward in her life next year, so I wanted to make a special card for her.  I used heavy scrapbook paper for the card itself (which is what I've used for all my other cards) and then I used spiral paper roses on the front and the side of the inside.  The roses are made from thin scrapbook paper with varied pink designs. I cut the front of the card so that the right inside of the card peeks out.  I then used 1/8 width quilling paper for the border around the words, the leaves, and the vines.

A Personalized Card for My Dad

Quilled arrowhead. The glue was still wet when I took the picture! I was a little late with this, but I was trying to send something handmade from me to my Dad for his birthday. He is an interesting person and if you follow me on Pinterest, you can see some of his handywork that he does knapping arrowheads and creating handmade knives. I couldn't quite decide what to make because I wanted something manly, so then I thought about making an arrowhead. VOILA! Not sure if it looks good enough, but I think he'll get the idea...lol! Then on the inside, I put a goofy quote..."Make it a point to have a great one!"  I know, I know..... Anyway, I think it turned out macho enough and hopefully he will like it!

Dance Teacher and Staff Appreciation Card

Quilled ballet shoe with quilled flowers Since being home with my son who is sick, I took a few minutes to put together the card for the dance studio.    I used 1/8th width quilling paper for the pointe shoe, rose, leaves, borders, and flower.  The words I just printed out using Microsoft Works and for the polka dot paper, I used some scrapbook paper and scalloped edge scissors. Dancer Teacher poem on quilled card     On the inside of the card, I used a poem called "Eyes Upon A Dance Teacher" from this website http://www.angelfire.com/oh2/chezsarah/bpoems.html  .  It is a site that has a lot of dance teacher poems.  I changed it by taking out the reference to a "little girl" to make it less "little girl" since my daughter has gotten older.  There are some great poems on this site.

Hunter's Assessment on Obama....and my reaction to the medias stance.

Today my son is home sick and as some of you know, he has an interesting perspective on just about everything.  Well, on the news was a brief about Romney's campaign ad gone wrong. I could tell by looking at my son that he was thinking...HARD!  He turned to me and said, "Mom...I don't like Obama."  I responded, " You don't like him or his actions as the President?"  We also try to be correct with our words and polite.  He replies," Well, his actions.... you remember he spent 2 billion dollars on international projects and they all went wrong!"  What was I supposed to say?  He remembered an ad against Obama's campaign that came on well over 3 monthes ago listing money that he had wasted in foreign projects. I of course had forgotten this ad and don't really rely on campaign ads.... I replied that as Americans we have to not believe everything we see on television and that you have to investigate and dig to find out the real facts.  Muc...

Viva La Musica!

Viva La Musica!!!    So today I decided to put my treble clef along with some notes onto a staff to make a complete picture.  They all have the beehive technique which I found easy to do for the skinnier parts of the notes.
